Competency-based grading
Run a competency grading track alongside numeric grades — build a subject competency library, attach competencies to assessments, and let teachers set proficiency levels per student per term.
Competency grading is a parallel track that records a student's proficiency against named learning outcomes alongside their numeric grades. Numeric grades and competency levels coexist — neither replaces the other. Teachers can record competency evidence on assessments and set a term-level proficiency for each competency; both appear on the report card.

Subject-gated
Competencies only appear for subjects that have a competency library defined. Subjects configured as Numeric only do not show the competency track.
The two competency layers

Both layers are independent. A teacher can record evidence on individual assessments and also set the term-level grade — or set the term grade directly without assessment-level evidence.
Set up competencies for a subject
1 — Define the competency scale
Before adding competencies, define the proficiency levels students can be awarded. Go to Assessments → Grading setup → Competencies and add levels:

2 — Build the competency library for a subject
Open Assessments → Grading setup → Competencies (subject competency library) and add the competencies students will be assessed on:

Competencies are defined per subject at a level — the same subject at different levels has its own separate library.
Attach competencies to an assessment
When creating or editing an exam template, quiz, or free assessment, open the Competencies tab and select which competencies that assessment covers. For exam templates, the competency list is set once on the template and is shared across all class sittings of that exam.
When grading the assessment, the teacher can set a proficiency level against each attached competency for each student — in addition to (or instead of) recording a numeric score.
Set the term competency grade
In the gradebook, open a subject's term view and select the Competencies panel. For each competency and each student, the teacher sets a single term proficiency level. This is the definitive term-level judgement — it is what appears on the report card.
The system can suggest the most recent assessment evidence level as a starting point, but the teacher always sets the final term grade.
How competencies appear on the report card
When a level has competencies enabled for a subject, the report card shows a competency section below the numeric grades for that subject. Each competency is listed with its term-level proficiency, shown as the band name and optional colour chip.
The overall numeric grade (moyenne générale) is not affected by competency levels — they are displayed as a separate, additive section.
Frequently asked questions
Do competency grades affect the student's average?
No. Competency levels are a parallel display track. The numeric average (moyenne générale) is always computed from numeric grades only. Competency levels do not add to or subtract from the numeric average.
Can I use competencies without numeric grades?
The gradebook always stores numeric grades. If a subject only uses competencies, you can enter numeric grades as 0 or exempt students — but a fully competency-only mode without any numeric column is not available in the current version.
Can multiple assessments cover the same competency?
Yes. Multiple assessments can be linked to the same competency. The assessment-evidence layer records one proficiency per (student, assessment, competency). The teacher reviews all evidence when setting the term-level grade.
What is the difference between assessment evidence and the term grade?
Assessment evidence is recorded for a specific piece of work — it shows how the student performed on that task. The term competency grade is the teacher's overall judgement for the whole term — it takes all evidence into account but is set by the teacher, not automatically derived.
Can parents see competency results?
Yes. Competency levels appear in the student view and on the report card, using the same proficiency level names the school defined.
Are competencies available for all subjects?
Only for subjects where the administrator has built a competency library. Subjects with no competencies defined show only numeric grades.
