School schedule
Set the school's default week for the academic year — working days, daily hours, period length, and shared breaks.
The School schedule is the school's default week for the selected academic year: which days you open, when the day starts and ends, how long a period lasts by default, and which breaks the whole school shares. Every timetable you build must fit inside this window.
Who this is for
Administrators setting the year-wide opening hours before building timetables.
Where this lives
Go to Settings → Academic → School schedule.
| Field | What it means |
|---|---|
| Working days | The weekdays the school is normally open (e.g. Monday–Friday). |
| Daily hours | The earliest start and latest end of the school day. |
| Period length | The default length of a teaching period (e.g. 45 minutes). |
| Max periods per day | The default ceiling for how many periods fit in a day. |
| Half-day divider | Optional time that splits morning from afternoon. |
| Breaks | Shared free times (lunch, recess, assembly) that apply school-wide. |
School schedule vs timetable config
Think of two layers:
| Layer | Purpose |
|---|---|
| School schedule | The global default for the year — the outer envelope. |
| Timetable config | A specific weekly grid for a timetable group (for example primary vs secondary). It can be the same as the school schedule, or a narrower subset. |
Examples:
- The school opens 08:00–17:00 Monday–Friday. Grade 1 uses a timetable config that ends at 14:00 with two short breaks. Grades 2–3 use a longer day with one lunch break.
- You try a shorter Friday on one draft group without changing the school-wide default.
What it is used for
| Area | How the school schedule helps |
|---|---|
| New timetable configs | A new config is pre-filled from the school schedule (days, hours, period length, shared breaks). |
| Saving a timetable config | The config must stay inside the school schedule: days must be school days, hours must fit within school hours, and extra breaks must not clash with school-wide breaks. |
| Teacher, room, and class availability | The unavailability editors show the school week grid so you mark busy or free times against the same canvas. |
| Teacher load | Capacity bars on teacher assignments measure load against the school week, not one group's config alone. |
| Open days | Working days (together with holidays and closures) decide when the school is open for dated work such as trips and class sessions. |
Set this early
Configure the school schedule before you create timetable configs. Changing the outer window later can force you to revisit configs that no longer fit.
