Create terms
Divide the academic year into terms or semesters used for grading and reporting.
A term is a period within the academic year — for example Term 1, Semester 2, or Trimester 3. Terms organise grading, reporting, and many academic workflows, so they are created right after the academic year itself.
Who this is for
Administrators structuring the calendar of an academic year.
Before you start
- The academic year must already exist — terms are created inside it.
- Plan the term dates so they sit within the academic year and do not overlap each other.
Steps
Open the Terms section
Go to Settings → Academic, open the academic year you are building, and find its Terms section. Click Add.
Fill in the term details
Complete the fields below, then click Submit.
| Field | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Label | Yes | The display name, e.g. Term 1. |
| Start date | Yes | Must fall within the academic year's date range. |
| End date | Yes | Must be on or after the start date, and within the academic year. |
| Active | No | Marks this as the current term. |
Resolve any overlap warning
If the dates overlap an existing term, the form shows a warning and blocks saving. Adjust the start or end date until the term no longer overlaps, then submit.
Repeat for every term
Add each term of the year. The new term appears in the list immediately.
Tip
Mark the current term as Active so grading and reporting default to the right period. Update it as the year progresses.
