Getting startedBuild the academic foundation
Create rooms
Register the physical rooms where classes are held so they can be used in scheduling.
A room is a physical space where teaching happens — a classroom, a lab, a gym, or a computer room. Rooms are used when building the timetable, and a subject can be restricted to specific room types.
Who this is for
Administrators preparing the academic foundation before scheduling.
Before you start
- An academic year must exist and be selected — each room belongs to the selected year.
- If the Equipment module is enabled, you can attach equipment items to a room. Create those items first if you want to link them.
Steps
Open the Rooms page
From the admin sidebar, go to Academic → Rooms.
Start a new room
Click Add Room to open the create form.
Fill in the room details
Complete the fields below, then click Submit.
| Field | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Room name | Yes | The display name, e.g. Science Lab A. |
| Code | Yes | A short identifier, max 15 characters, e.g. LAB-A. |
| Room number | Yes | The room number used by your school, e.g. 204. |
| Capacity | Yes | Maximum number of students the room holds. Must be at least 1. |
| Building | No | The building the room is in. |
| Floor | No | The floor the room is on. |
| Building address | No | Optional address of the building. |
| Equipment | No | Equipment available in the room. Only shown when the Equipment module is enabled. |
| Room types | No | One or more types (e.g. Lab, Classroom). Subjects can be restricted to these types. |
Confirm the room appears
The new room is added to the Rooms list immediately. Repeat for every teaching space.
Tip
Set room types accurately. They let the timetable place a subject only in suitable rooms — for example keeping Chemistry in a Lab.
