Communication

Keep your school connected — announcements, the events calendar, chat, audiences, and notification preferences.

The Communication module is how your school keeps everyone informed and connected. You can broadcast announcements, publish events to the school calendar, hold two-way conversations in chat, decide exactly who receives each message with audiences, and let each person choose how they're notified.

Who this is for

Administrators and teachers who send information out, and the students and families who receive it.

The pieces and how they fit

ToolDirectionUse it to…
AnnouncementsOne-wayShare news with a chosen group. People read it; they don't reply.
EventsCalendarPut dates on the school calendar — holidays, exams, activities, closures.
Chat (messaging)Two-wayHold conversations: class channels, direct messages, and broadcast channels.
AudiencesShared building blockDefine who receives an announcement or event — by role, by level, or specific people.
NotificationsPer personEach person chooses what they're alerted about and how.

Audiences sit underneath announcements and events: when you send either one, you pick an audience to decide who sees it. Notifications sit on top: once something is sent, the people in the audience are alerted according to their own notification preferences.

Good to know

  • Audiences are reusable. Define a group once (for example All Year 5 parents) and reuse it across announcements and events.
  • Some events close the school. Marking a day as a holiday or closure tells the rest of the platform the school isn't open that day — so, for example, no bus trips are generated.
  • Class chats are automatic. A chat channel is created for each class from its teacher assignments — you don't set them up by hand.
